From the OC to Seattle

Recently drove from the OC (Southern California) to Seattle, WA (yes it was raining when we arrived).
Total number of hours driven: 23, not including sight-seeing around stops.

Here are some quick pics via the Hipstamatic app on my iPhone :)

Took this while driving across SF’s famous bridge.

A Quick Night Out in Los Angeles

Ari was in town so I took her to the Griffith Observatory and Fred62 diner. It was a good time! I tried to take some night photos with my Fujifilm x100. It was a challenge…the camera seems to “search” a lot in low light. The metering is pretty accurate but certainly limited. But of course, this camera isn’t meant to perform like the super fast and sharp Nikon D3s…that is a very unfair comparison. With that said, it’s a fun camera to use – it’s stylish, light, and super quiet. Here are some shots that turned out OK :)

First Day With the Fujifilm x100

I feel really lucky – I got the Fujifilm x100 as a gift recently. We took it out to Little Tokyo, Los Angeles for a test run. It was really enjoyable and I got a few comments like “Hey, that’s a cool camera!” It really is a beautiful looking piece of hardware. For its size, it takes lovely photos and the camera is actually fun to use. It’s nice to not lug around a full DSLR! I can’t wait to take more photos with it. Here are some to start…

Apple Sharlotka and Food Photography via an App

I was really pleased with myself when I successfully baked an Apple Sharlotka this past weekend. The recipe is derived from Smitten Kitchen’s recipe. I used smaller apples and about 1/4 less sugar than the recipe calls for. I’m thinking of using brown sugar next time to see what that tastes like.

A note on the Hipstamatic App for iPhone: The app allows for “artsy” photos using various lens packs. It’s not free like Instagram but I like it.

Here some of my old photos using the app:

Happy New Year!

Happy 2012! I should have posted this on January 1st but…here we are.
Over the holiday break I visited my family in Seattle. It’s always fun to visit.
I had a good time eating, walking around the city, shopping, revisiting my favorite spots, etc..
